Rhode Island Woman Identified As Victim In MA Cold Case

The Northwestern District Attorney announces a breakthrough in a 4-decade old cold case.

Officials say the remains found in Warwick in June of 1989 are those of Constance Holminski Bassignani.

She was 65 at the time of her death and was living in Woonsocket Rhode Island. She had lived in Warwick, Massachusetts.

Bassignani, who was a native of Hawaii was last seen around Memorial Day. Investigators say her grandchildren were reportedly told by her second husband, William that she was planning to return to her native Hawaii.

Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Steve Gagne says they could never prove that.

Gagne told reporters that William died in 1993 and that they have NO evidence for a suspect in the murder but Gagne said “he could be a person of interest.”

Officials do not know why Constance was in Warwick, Massachusetts, a community in Franklin County, Massachusetts.

The western Mass community is about a 90-minute drive to Woonsocket.

Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan says they have been working with Othram which is a Texas company that specializes in forensic genetic genealogy.
